In Iran, this tree allegedly bleeds at dawn of every Ashura day in every year(Ashura is an religious event for Shiite muslims, on the 10th of Muharram month in the Islamic Calendar). Some Shiites believe the blood shedding from the tree is a sign that represents Al-Hussein’s(The prophet Mohammad’s grandson) blood, others believe that the tree bleeds for murder of Al-Hussein.
